Humans – Origins and Evolution of Humanity

From March 14, 2026, to February 28, 2027, the new exhibition “Humans: Origin and Evolution of Humanity,” produced by Geomodel Srl and curated by paleontologist Simone Maganuco, opens its doors in Gubbio, in the evocative former Monastery of San Benedetto. This new section, an exhibition within the exhibition within Dinosaurs in the Flesh – Extinction, retraces the fascinating journey of human evolution in an unusual way.
The brain and hands were essential tools for colonizing environments and developing defenses against disease and foraging techniques. Humans have increasingly relied on culture and technology, designing, producing, and modifying their lifestyles and the environment itself.
Illustrated panels, multimedia content, hyper-realistic life-size models, modeled with animals illustrated at a 1:1 scale, and casts of fossils and stone tools accompany visitors along the exhibition, a veritable evolutionary journey that narrates the major biological and cultural achievements.

The notes by paleontologist Simone Maganuco, the exhibition’s creator and curator, capture the essence of the entire project: “This exhibition features artistic sculptures based on strictly scientific principles of some of the most famous and important hominids for reconstructing the human adventure. Many of these models were created based on specific individuals, whose appearance tells us unique and fascinating stories. We therefore present them as “people,” not as mere fossil specimens, telling a story about each one.”
