Monte Ingino
and Funivia

Gubbio lies at the foot of Mount Ingino at an elevation of 522 meters above sea level. The mountain reaches 905 meters and is part of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines. This is a mountainous natural area, rich in vegetation and wildlife—an ideal place for hiking, trekking, biking, horseback riding, outdoor sports, and many fun and easy activities to enjoy alone, with friends, or with the whole family.

  • The summit of Mount Ingino can be reached by a trail that starts from the upper part of the city’s historic center. It is divided into “stradoni” (wide paths) and dotted with small chapels, leading up to the majestic Basilica of Sant’Ubaldo at an altitude of 850 meters. Going even higher, you can visit the ruins of the ancient defensive fortress, where the large star of the world’s largest Christmas tree is located.
  • Alternatively, you can take the cable car (or “bucket lift”), which takes you directly to the top. Fun and widely photographed and filmed, it always surprises visitors: you stand upright in complete safety and enjoy stunning panoramic views from above.
  • Mount Ingino features several equipped areas with cafés and excellent restaurants offering panoramic views. A favorite spot—especially for children and for planning picnics and barbecues—is Parco di Coppo, which can also be reached by car via the Bottaccione Gorge.
  • There are many trails for your hikes. The local CAI (Italian Alpine Club) is very active and regularly organizes excursions for all levels. All routes are well marked, but it’s always a good idea to get information in advance: https://www.caigubbio.it/
