The private studio of the Duke of Montefeltro
The faithful replica of the Duke of Montefeltro’s Studiolo (private studio), inaugurated in 2009, is one of the main reasons to visit the Ducal Palace Museum in Gubbio. The original studiolo can now be admired at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where it arrived in 1939 after several changes of ownership. The decision to recreate this exquisite copy is a tribute to Gubbio’s great tradition of woodworking and, in particular, the art of marquetry.
This replica is the result of meticulous research, aimed at recreating as faithfully as possible the appearance and atmosphere of the 15th-century studiolo. Local artisans used similar techniques and materials to those of the Renaissance to reproduce the wooden inlays, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the cultural and aesthetic world of the Italian Renaissance.
The Liutherie
The “Spazio Liuteria” is a professional violin-making course that enhances and revives an important tradition in the city, originally established by Master Guerriero Spataffi in 1978. The program includes both practical and theoretical lessons and focuses on the construction of violins and classical guitars.
